Musical Moments

Course Description:

This class combines learning about beautiful music and making some of our own!

Students will encounter some of history’s greatest composers through listening, analyzing, comparing, and discussing musical selections. Through engaging activities, students will gain understanding of beat, meter, tempo, dynamics, articulation, style, and instrumentation. Student understanding will be assessed through musical concept and composer fact quizzes as well as a presentation given during the spring semester.

This course also includes beginning recorder instruction. Students will learn to produce quality tone and play accurately on the soprano recorder. Students will read basic treble clef musical notation and rhythms as well as explore musical terminology and symbols. We will play as a whole group and in smaller ensembles as we perform folk tunes, holiday songs, and rounds. Students will be expected to practice at home each week and will learn to clean and care for their instruments.

This class is appropriate for students with no prior musical experience but also beneficial for students taking music lessons.
