Course Description:
In this fun and hands-on art class, students will be introduced to the exciting world of sculpture. This introductory course provides young students with a foundational understanding of sculpture as a three-dimensional art form. Through a blend of studio practice and art history, students will explore the artistic concept of form—how shapes take up space and are viewed from multiple angles—while developing skills in building and designing their own sculptures. In addition to form, budding artists will learn about the elements of shape and texture. Students will craft sculptures using a variety of materials like clay, wire, cardboard, paper, plastic, and paper mâché. Students will also paint and decorate their sculptures using mixed media.
Students will learn about famous sculptures from around the world and through history, such as Michelangelo. By the end of the class, students will understand the fundamentals and basic history of sculpture, feel confident using different materials, and have a collection of their own creative 3D artworks to be proud of.
