Suggested Age:

Prerequisites:
1+ year of instrumental music, or by audition
Course Description:
Advanced Band is a course designed for students with a year or more of prior instrumental experience, focusing on developing ensemble skills and musical literacy through playing instruments and learning music theory.
Students will play challenging band literature at concerts in December and May. Ambitious musicians can audition to take part in a TPSMEA Honor Band in the fall, and prepare a solo to perform at a festival in the spring.
Students will attend class once per week, and practice independently (with instructions! and coaching!) during the rest of the week.
Curriculum/Materials:
For a successful band experience, you'll need a good instrument, the proper accessories and cleaning kit, and a music stand (folding is okay!).
I'll help y'all figure out how to get an instrument. Renting from Strait Music or Music & Arts is a solid option, or buying a quality used instrument can be great, too. PLEASE don't buy an instrument from a store that also sells tires or paper towels. They're a poor investment. I'll help you!
