Course Description:
Process
Latin 2 is a continuation of Latin 1 and is the equivalent of a second year of high school Foreign Language credit. It builds on the grammar and vocabulary mastered in the previous year. It includes a weekly study of Latin vocabulary and grammar. Each weekly chapter contains a Latin reading that takes the student through a fascinating journey of Roman culture, myths, and history all through a Christian perspective. Students will be reading weekly Latin texts from such historical writers as Shakespeare, Horace, Vergil, Ovid, Seneca, Tacitus, Pliny and St. Augustine. While learning the subtleties of grammar and etymology, students gain a deep understanding of English grammar and logical thinking. Latin is akin to verbal math and is an excellent preparation for those pursing future careers in law, medicine, science or any of the romance languages.
