Course Description:
What is art? Can beauty and truth be found in work created by secular artists? Using a Biblical worldview, this course traces artistic expression from early scriptural foundations through the development of photography and modern AI.
The course is designed to help students understand how human creativity reflects the Imago Dei (Image of God). Students will learn to slow down and discover how artists utilize various tools and mediums. They will analyze artistic styles, the movements popular during an artist’s era, and whether there is any evidence of a Christian lifestyle in the artist's work and life.
Class time will consist of lectures, and hands-on activities. To deepen their understanding of specific mediums or artists, students will complete weekly homework and present two end-of-semester projects. For these projects, students may choose to present their own work of art or write a paper.
Curriculum/Materials:
Digitally provided by instructor to be printed and brought to class.
The materials fee will cover the cost of art supplies which will be provided by the instructor for in class use.
