Foundations of Good Citizenship: Civics for Homeschoolers

Course Description:

In Texas, homeschoolers must legally provide instruction in good citizenship.  This civics class for middle school answers what does it mean to be a good citizen.  Foundations of Good Citizenship introduces students to the knowledge, values, and responsibilities needed to be thoughtful, responsible members of their community, state, and nation. The course includes the study of national and state governments, including the foundational history of both.  Students will also learn about educational freedom in Texas, including the legal freedoms and responsibilities of homeschooling families, helping them understand how civic principles apply to their own lives. Emphasis is placed on character, civic duty, and informed participation, encouraging students to practice good citizenship at home, in their communities, and beyond. Students will complete weekly homework assignments, including small projects, and have periodic content quizzes.  The course will culminate in a final project of civic participation.
