About the course
Purpose
Students in this stage are gaining confidence in both their reading and writing skills. Students will be introduced to the basic rules of grammar through color-coding, write with a purpose, as well as spell and use meaningful vocabulary words.

Basic Rules of Grammar
Easy Grammar 3 Workbook is our primary grammar text
Color-coding parts of speech assists students in comprehending sentence patterns that will carry over into their sentence writing skills
Capitalization and punctuation practice
Compositions
Engaging weekly one-paragraph compositions
Topic sentence
Concluding sentence
Spelling/Vocabulary Assignments
Basic spelling rules: vowels, digraphs, diphthongs
Meaningful vocabulary
Weekly chart completion
Parental Responsibilities
Each week parents are asked to oversee the completion of the following assignments, grade them accordingly, and record the grades on the Weekly Grade Report Chart:
Spelling test over the student’s weekly vocabulary words
Vocabulary chart completion
Grammar pages assigned weekly (keys are included in the teacher’s edition of the grammar text)
Compositions should be completed according to the rubrics provided in the student workbook and submitted to the student’s One Day Academy teacher for grading.
